Shabbat

Shabbat

This winter, for the first time, my family chose a Friday night to say prayers, light candles and eat challah. We have done this every Friday since. This small ritual brings light into each week. After several weeks one of my daughters can nearly recite the full prayer. All three of my children, and my wife, look forward to these few minutes of connection each Friday before dinner. (They also like Saturday morning challah french toast!) I feel proud that after many years of regret (but no action) of how little Judaism I have in my family’s life, I’m finally taking a step toward connecting myself and my daughters to my history, to my people.
